Last Night There Was A Shooting

On the next street down. I had just gone to bed. It was just a little after one a.m. Suddenly I heard a gun being fired. I thought it was one gun being fired, with little minute pauses, as if the shooter was shifting aim. I thought it was around ten shots. Afterwards I could hear some people briefly shouting and talking. Then about ten minutes after that, I heard sirens and the ghetto bird started flying over head. I thought the gunfire was at the park (about a block from where I live). I was wrong. The ghetto bird was circling RIGHT over head and shining it's light in MY backyard. Goosie kept bouncing from the bed to the window. Still, I just thought it was the "normal" bit of shooting off one's gun that had happened. There was more sirens and it all took about an hour to go away or at least subside to the point where I could go to sleep.

This morning when I went to work and drove out of the cue-de-sac, I realized that street was cordoned off with yellow tape and there was a news van parked on it. At this point I realized that what ever had happened was rather bad and someone must have died. Took me forever to find out what had happened.

It turns out there was a party on the next street, that was very well attended. Three guys arrived and one of them started shooting. Other people shot back. A fourteen year old girl died on scene. Six others were taken to the hospital.

I'm sorry she's dead.

I hope they catch the guy.
